Buyer Protection Policy
What the HoloLedger Buyer Protection fee actually pays for.
Version 1.0 · Effective 10 October 2026
1. What the fee is
Every purchase through HoloLedger includes a Buyer Protection fee on top of the seller’s price. The price we show on listings, and on the “Buy now” button, is the total you pay: the seller’s price plus the fee. The breakdown is on each listing and at checkout.
The fee is worked out on the seller’s price, in bands:
| Part of the price | Fee |
|---|---|
| Up to £20 | 6% |
| £20 to £250 | 4% |
| Over £250 | 3% |
| Plus, on every order | 30p |
The fee is capped at £75. For example, a £25 card has a £1.70 fee, so you pay £26.70. The fee for an order is fixed when you pay and never changes afterwards.
Postage is arranged directly with the seller and isn’t included in the HoloLedger total. HoloLedger Ltd is not currently VAT registered, so no VAT is added to the fee; we will update this policy if that changes.
2. What Buyer Protection does
- Secure payment: Stripe, a regulated payment provider, handles your card. HoloLedger never sees or stores your card details.
- The seller isn't paid until you confirm the card has arrived. After you confirm, we hold the payment for a further 48 hours before releasing it to the seller.
- Reminders: if you haven't confirmed receipt a week after dispatch, we'll remind you. After two weeks, our team looks into the order. We never mark an order as received for you.
- A dispute process, from the order page. If the card hasn’t arrived 7 days after dispatch, open an “item not received” dispute. Don’t confirm receipt. If it arrives but isn’t as described, is damaged or is the wrong card, confirm receipt and then open a dispute, ideally within the 48-hour hold, before the seller is paid. See our Dispute Policy. A dispute decided in your favour gets a full refund of the price and the Buyer Protection fee.
- A person reviews every dispute before any decision. Refunds are never automatic.
3. What Buyer Protection is not
To be accurate about the real system, Buyer Protection is not:
- insurance, in the regulated-insurance-product sense
- a guarantee against every possible loss
- an authenticity guarantee for the card itself — HoloLedger does not grade or authenticate cards; “suspected counterfeit” is a valid dispute reason, reviewed case by case, not a certification
- an escrow arrangement in the strict legal sense
- a substitute for your card issuer's own chargeback rights, which remain available to you independently
4. Eligibility
Buyer Protection applies to marketplace purchases completed through HoloLedger’s checkout. It does not apply to card-for-card Trade Protection, which has no money involved and its own, more limited protections — see our Trade Protection Policy.
5. How to make a claim
See our Dispute Policy for eligible reasons, evidence requirements, and the process.
6. Your other rights
Buyer Protection is in addition to your legal rights, not instead of them. Most sellers on HoloLedger are private individuals. When you buy from a private seller, you don’t have the 14-day cancellation right that applies when buying online from a business, but the card must still match its description, and the seller must not mislead you. Your card issuer’s chargeback rights also remain available. See our Refunds & Cancellations Policy.
