Safety

Staying safe on HoloLedger

Most transactions and trades go exactly as expected. These are the habits worth keeping anyway, and how to report something that isn't right.

Keep activity on HoloLedger

Keep communication, offers, purchases and trade agreements on HoloLedger rather than moving them to email, social media or messaging apps. It’s what makes Buyer Protection and Trade Protection possible, and it’s your record of what was actually agreed if something later goes wrong. A request to pay or communicate off-platform is itself something worth being cautious about — see below.

Account security

  • Use a strong, unique password for your HoloLedger account — not one reused from another site.
  • HoloLedger will never ask you for your password over message or email. Never share it with anyone, including someone claiming to be HoloLedger support.
  • Be wary of links or messages that pressure you to sign in somewhere unfamiliar — check you’re on hololedger.co.uk before entering your credentials.

Buying

  • Look closely at the actual listing photos, not just the catalogue artwork — see the Condition Guide for what to check.
  • Check the seller’s profile — how long they’ve been on HoloLedger and any reviews from completed sales.
  • Always pay through HoloLedger checkout. That’s what makes Buyer Protection apply — a payment made outside it isn’t covered.
  • Don’t agree to pay a seller directly, by bank transfer or otherwise, to avoid the Buyer Protection fee — it removes the protection along with the fee.

Selling

  • Write accurate listings with real photographs — see Seller Information.
  • Describe condition honestly; when in doubt, choose the lower tier.
  • Package cards securely for dispatch, and add tracking if you’re able to.
  • Complete sales through HoloLedger checkout rather than accepting payment directly from a buyer.

Trading

  • Agree the exact cards and conditions before accepting a trade — see the Trading Guide.
  • Use the protected trade process rather than arranging shipping outside it.
  • Keep any carrier tracking reference on the trade itself, so there’s a record if something goes missing.
  • Don’t be pressured to send first, ship to an address outside the protected flow, or skip confirming receipt.

Messaging

Don’t send, or ask for, anything you wouldn’t hand to a stranger:

  • payment card details or banking credentials
  • your HoloLedger password
  • a one-time verification code, from HoloLedger or anywhere else
  • any other sensitive personal information you don’t need to share to complete the transaction

Scams and suspicious behaviour

None of these guarantee something's wrong on their own, but they're worth pausing on.

  • pressure to pay outside HoloLedger, or to an unusual payment method
  • a push to move the conversation off-platform early
  • an offer that looks implausibly good for the card
  • listing photos or details that don’t quite match what’s being described
  • urgency — pressure to decide or pay immediately

Reporting

You can report a user, a listing, a message, a review, or a Community post or comment. Every report goes to HoloLedger’s admin team for review — not an automated system — and the person you report is never told who reported them or why. Not every report leads to enforcement action, and that’s a genuine outcome, not a formality.

If in doubt, report it.

Reporting doesn’t escalate anything on its own — it just puts the situation in front of someone who can look into it.
